1. The subject of the PhD thesis is to adapt existing dynamic simulation tools developed for 50-30 degree celsius water to lower temperatures to make it suitable for geothermal energy. A calibration phase will be required from experimental installations available in Liege and the Hainaut regions. More info can be found here. (Supervisor: Pierre Dewallef)
Master Thesis and internship subjects
Every year, Master theses and internship can be conducted in the premises of the LaboThAp (B49).
These subjects are open to both local students and foreign students. The stays are not remunerated, but some possibilities exist for travel grants to international students to travel to Liège or for local students to travel abroad.
Here is the list of subjects, currently available:
1. Experimental Analysis of a Tank Pressurization Valve for Next-Generation Aircraft Engine Lubrication Systems (Supervisor: Samuel Gendebien)
2. Generation of electricity demand curves and estimation of solar potential for large building parks using the python libraries ramp and pvlib (Supervisors: Mazarine Roquet and Pierre Dewallef)
3. Design of a Transcritical CO2 Carnot Battery Control Architecture (Supervisors: Basile Chaudoir and Vincent Lemort)
4. Analysis of aggregate battery models to characterize the flexibility of electric water heaters in the Belgian energy system (Supervisor: Sylvain Quoilin)
5. Development of an energy system model for the African continent (Supervisor: Sylvain Quoilin)
6. Energy Scenarios including Energy Return on Investment (Supervisor: Sylvain Quoilin)
7. Improving the simulation of variable energy sources in integrated assessment models (Supervisor: Sylvain Quoilin)
8. Microgrids for rural electrification (Supervisor: Sylvain Quoilin)
9. Modelling system integration in future European energy system (Supervisor: Sylvain Quoilin)
